Paul Whitehouse and Craig Denton spent the best part of fifteen years fitting kitchens and hanging doors for building firms across the Midlands. Good, steady work — but by 2008 they had both noticed the same thing. Customers were asking about bifold doors, sliding door systems, big glass panels opening onto gardens and patios. The products were out there, but the builders they worked for were not set up to install them properly. Most treated it as just another door, when in reality these systems need a different level of precision.
They talked it over through the back end of 2008 and decided to go out on their own. Not as general builders. Not as a window company. Specifically as door fitters — people who would learn the products inside out and do nothing else. Bifold Sliding Door Fitters Ltd was registered in early 2009, and they started taking jobs from a rented lock-up in Shirley.
The early years were about getting trained. Both Paul and Craig completed installer certification programmes with Origin, Schuco, and Smart Systems — the three main aluminium door manufacturers in the UK market. That meant travelling to factories, spending days learning how the profiles were made, how the hardware worked, what tolerances the systems needed. It was time-consuming but it set the standard for everything that followed.
Word got around. Builders who had worked with Paul and Craig before started passing on enquiries for door installations they did not want to tackle themselves. Kitchen fitters recommended them to clients who wanted bifolds across a new extension. Within three years, the diary was full and they were turning work down. They took on their first employee in 2012 and moved to the current unit on Cranford Way in Solihull not long after.
The company now employs six fitters, all of whom have been trained in-house and through manufacturer programmes. We cover the full West Midlands — from Wolverhampton in the north-west to Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon in the south-east. The work has not changed much in principle: measure accurately, prepare the opening properly, install the door system to the manufacturer's specification, and make sure the customer is happy with how it looks and works. We have just got better at it over the years.

Time-served joiner with over 25 years in the trade. Paul handles the technical side of the business — site surveys, structural assessments, and making sure every installation meets manufacturer specifications. He completed Origin and Schuco certification in the company's first year and still picks up a drill when the schedule demands it.
Craig manages the day-to-day operations and customer relationships. Also a qualified joiner, he oversees the fitting teams and handles product sourcing and scheduling. Craig is the first point of contact for most enquiries and coordinates the survey-to-installation process from start to finish.
